Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery

Our physicians deal with all diseases and injuries to the hand and upper extremity, using both operative and non-operative techniques. Our specialists are located at main orthopaedic clinic at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo., and in Jefferson City at the Mid-Missouri Hand and Orthopaedic Outreach Clinic. Appointments can be made by calling the orthopaedic clinic appointment desk at (573) 882-8142. If you wish to to refer patients, please call us toll free at (800) 877-7197 (in Columbia, 882-7197) and our Referral Services staff will connect your call.

Our staff

Our hand service is led by one of Missouri’s most experienced physicians and teachers, Barry J. Gainor, M.D., who has served the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for more than a quarter of a century.

Matthew C. Anderson, M.D., specializes in hand and upper extremity orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Anderson provides comprehensive management of work related hand and upper extremity injuries. In addition to his regular clinics at University Hospital, he offers clinic hours in Jefferson City each Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
